Betsy Sellers
Bio
I am Betsy Sellers and have lived in Brunswick County, North Carolina for all of my fifty-one years. I am married to Perry and we will celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary this November. We have two daughters, Brittany, 22 and Whitney, 21.
I have a great appreciation for times past and the privilege of growing up on the family farm in rural Brunswick County. For generations my parents, grandparents, and great grandparents have been part of the Brunswick County farming community as my parents participated in the 100th year Family Farm recognition as both families’ farms continue to be owned by them and my younger brother. As a young girl I worked on the farm with my parents and brothers. The experiences of farm life have taught me many practical and valuable lessons that serve me well. I also have a degree in Mechanical Drafting and Design which influences my love of working with my hands and designing new works.
I began pottery classes through Brunswick Community College in October 2003 with a hand building class in Southport. In January 2005 new doors were opened as I began to learn wheel throwing. I joined Jeffcoat Pottery in July 2006. I am so amazed by the clay’s fluidity which can be shaped, fired in a kiln and then last for thousands of years. I continue to learn everyday with successes and failures that the possibilities of clay are only limited by ones imagination and a few laws of physics.
I consider it a privilege and a blessing to be allowed to work with clay. As my adventure in clay continues I hope I will always remember to be grateful for the ability to work with my hands and use the talent God has given me to bring glory and honor to Him.
